X Out Your Wrinkles with Xeomin

Posted on September 13rd, 2022

Look in your mirror. Do you notice forehead furrows or frown lines when you’re being expressive? Does your smile accentuate crow’s feet you’re NOT really crazy about? Does your face look angry or worried even when you’re not?

You’ve waited long enough … it’s time to do something about it!

If you want to look like yourself, just fresher, then treating your problem areas with XEOMIN® may be the perfect solution!

What is XEOMIN®?

XEOMIN® is an injectable neuromodulator that uses a form of purified botulism toxin to temporarily relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles. Neurotoxins block nerve impulses, preventing contraction of the muscle fibers that cause certain wrinkles, like frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles.

Your XEOMIN® XPERIENCE

Our in-office XEOMIN® treatments take just 10-20 minutes and have minimal downtime and minimal side effects.

  • Desired results may be noticed as early as within 48 hours.
  • The effects are temporary, requiring periodic maintenance every 3-6 months for optimum results.
  • One common side effect is temporary discomfort at injection sites.

BOTOX® vs XEOMIN®

Similarities:

  • Both have FDA approval for treating forehead wrinkles and are used off-brand to eliminate other expression lines and wrinkles on the face and neck.
  • Both use neurotoxins to relax targeted facial muscles, reducing wrinkles.
  • Both are temporary, lasting approximately 3-6 months.
  • Both are dosed similarly (i.e. 10 units of BOTOX® equals the strength of 10 units of XEOMIN®).

The primary differences between BOTOX® and XEOMIN® involve the formulation of the product:

  • XEOMIN® uses incobotulinumtoxinA, while Botox uses onabotulinumtoxinA.
  • XEOMIN® is a “naked” neurotoxin with just the one, active ingredient while BOTOX® has protective proteins clustered around the active molecule. The pure-form of XEOMIN® may mean users have a lower chance of developing resistance to the product.
  • XEOMIN® doesn’t require refrigeration during storage.

XEOMIN FAQS

What is Xeomin used for?

Xeomin is indicated for the cosmetic treatment of fine lines and wrinkles. It is often called “the new Botox” and works in the same manner as Botox.

It is FDA approved for cosmetic treatment of the glabellar region (forehead frown/scowl lines) but is commonly used in other areas of the face and neck.

Can Xeomin be used for crow’s feet?

Yes, Xeomin can be used for crow’s feet! Xeomin is a perfect treatment for fine lines and wrinkles on the face and around the eyes. Anything that you would use Botox to treat, can be treated with Xeomin.

How long does it take for Xeomin to work?

Depending which study you read, Xeomin is the fastest, or one of the fastest, anti-wrinkle medications to kick in. Most people start seeing changes within 1-3 days with full results between 7-10 days. Like Botox, most treatments last an average of 3-months.

Xeomin vs. Botox- how are they different?

As above, Xeomin is considered a more pure form of neurotoxin. This is because there are no preservatives used to make it and it also does not have the surrounding protein complex that Botox has. Otherwise they are nearly the same medication and last the same amount of time for most people.

Is Xeomin an alternative to Botox?

Yes, Xeomin is a great alternative to Botox. For those people that Botox does not work on, Xeomin is a great “naked” alternative. Some believe Xeomin also works quicker and lasts longer.

Does Botox or Xeomin last longer?

Many injectors will tell you that Xeomin and Botox have similar lifespans. In some recent studies, Xeomin has lasted several weeks longer than its Botox counterpart. This may mean some extra time in-between visits to your injector’s office!

If I am resistant to Botox will Xeomin work for me?

Yes, Xeomin should work for you. To explain:

Since Xeomin does not contain the protein complex (which the body would react to and create immune cells to fight) there is no immune response and therefore no resistance can be formed to Xeomin.

Dysport and Jeuveau contain the same protein molecule as Botox so in theory if you are resistant to Botox you could also form resistance to Dysport & Jeuveau.

What are the ingredients in Xeomin?

Lyophilized powder containing botulinum toxin A, human albumin and sucrose (a sugar). There are no preservatives. This product is manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Merz.

Does Xeomin hurt?

Most people find Xeomin injections to be very tolerable. The smallest of needles is used for injection and most people feel a tiny poke of the needle only in sensitive areas. If you have concerns about pain let your injector know.

Will people know I had Xeomin?

If done correctly the majority of people will not know you’ve had Xeomin injections. They will more likely notice that you look nice or look younger but will not be able to pinpoint exactly what is different.

How long does Xeomin last?

It can vary for each person and for the site injected but the average is 3 months. Areas with a lot of movement, like around the eyes and mouth, may only last 2 months. Whereas areas that move less, like the forehead, may last 3-4 months.

The more consistent the injections are done the longer it lasts as the muscle is weakened with each session.

What is a frozen face?

A “frozen face” is where someone has had injections all over their face and is unable to make normal facial expressions. We have seen this on the media but it is very rare for the average person that gets Xeomin.

Usually what we see on TV is a combination of plastic surgery, overdone dermal fillers and neurotoxin injections.

Can I lay down after my Xeomin treatment?

There isn’t much evidence that anti-wrinkle injection treatments move or shift after being injected but it’s better to be safe and avoid anything that could cause this theoretical problem. So, after your Xeomin injections, you should avoid laying down for 4 hours if you can. Patients are also instructed to not rub or massage the area treated.

What are the bad side effects of Xeomin?

When used cosmetically in healthy people side effects are very mild but include pain at the injection site, redness, and bruising.

Moderate side effects such as: swelling, asymmetrical results, heavy brows, dropped brows, or a droopy eyelid are very rare but also possible.

An experienced injector will know how to avoid these side effects and the good news is that none are permanent, they wear off as the medication does.

Can Vegans get Xeomin?

Technically Xeomin, and all of the neurotoxins, are not vegan because of the human albumin. However, the albumin is from a donor that willingly donated blood products so it depends on the individuals personal or religious beliefs on whether this would be ok for them.

How much does Xeomin cost?

As with any medical or cosmetic procedure you are not just paying for the product but also the quality, expertise and technique of the injector.

The best price does not equal the best result and it can cost much more in the long run to have a poor result corrected than getting a great result from the start.

Pricing may also depend on the number of units you require and if you are having any other procedures done. Typically Xeomin starts at $10/unit.

Are payment plans available for Xeomin treatments?

Unfortunately payment is due at the time of service, price will be agreed upon before treatment begins so there are no surprises after treatment. However, we do accept CareCredit and HSA or HMA cards!!
